The history of the company reaches back into the era following the Second World War with the establishment of the company Tovarna avtomobilov Maribor which was, at that time the largest manufacturer of trucks and buses in Yugoslavia.
Tovarna vozil Maribor, d. o. o. was established on 18 April 2001 through the merger of the companies M.P.P. Vozila, d. o. o. and M.P.P. Razvoj, d. o. o. – the successors of the former TAM company and M.P.P. Duf – Družba za upravljanje in financiranje podjetij, d. o. o. The construction of a new and modern equipped plant took place concurrently with the merger.
The newly founded company began with the manufacture of buses and trucks at the end of 2001. Products were still in the concluding phase of development and were not yet ready to be marketed leading to the reorganisation of the company in 2003.
The year 2004 was an important milestone in company history. The Viator & Vektor Group became the majority stakeholder of Tovarna vozil Maribor through the acquisition of a majority stake in the company. Intensive marketing activities commenced with the entry of the Viator & Vektor Group in the sense of acquiring new orders, new projects and the search for synergy effects in the Group. Intensive reorganisation activities were also introduced, namely regarding the centralisation of all functions (acquisition of employees from TVM Razvoj, d. o. o. and TVM Trgovina, d. o. o.) followed by rationalisation and optimisation of workplaces.
